So, you may or may not know, but I have started Hudson on a Kindergarten homeschooling program. He has begun reading and spelling words, and in some areas seems quite ahead of his classmates in the 3 year old class at school.
Since he has over a year before he is "legally" allowed to being Kindergarten in Texas, I decided to order the curriculum that I taught last year and gradually introduce him to homeschooling.
As many of you know, I have always been very AGAINST homeschooling. It is not my thing. I NEVER thought it would be something that was a fit for my family....and, to be honest, I'm still not sure.
That being said, my child has expressed an early interest in some areas of academics and I feel like I need to have opportunities available for him at home, in addition to his school time. He is still in the "correct" age group/classroom at school. When I did assessments, he did better than some of my students! he is READY for Kinder level work, so it just seemed natural that I would give him the chance at home....especially since I have yet to get that winning lotto ticket so private school is out of reach!
Anyway - I ordered some books and have started a separate blog to keep track of our homeschooling. I am trying to keep up with it, but between my musical theatre classes, Pre-K teaching job and director duties, plus my family and home to maintain, we are not as adamant about schooling as I'd like. Since he's not even 4 1/2 yet, I'm not too worried....we just work at our own pace and we'll see how it goes.
Keep me posted on your own homeschooling or home-supplementing adventures! This is a whole new world to us and I'm excited to see what works for us, and what doesn't! Because, after all, isn't that what homeschooling is all about? The adventure?
